Bishop's Cap Fossils.png

Join Celebration of Our Mountains Board Director and geologist, Paul Galvan, on this easy to moderate hike to collect rarely preserved fossils and beautiful minerals (calcite, fluorite, barite, quartz, and gypsum) in the southern Organ Mountains. High clearance vehicles ONLY can navigate this area. Expert hikers can continue uphill to see anthills made of quartz crystals! Bring plenty of water, snacks, proper attire for the sun, a collecting bag or bucket and a hammer. Meet at the Dairy Queen at Transmountain Rd. and I-10 at 8:30 am. (MAP) The drive to Bishops cap is approximately 30-45 minutes.
